Enough Is Enough.....
I will cover Trump as he addresses issues with specific policy prescriptions and details, like answers to the question Ramos asked.
Until then, this man is not worthy of the attention hes garnering. We in the media have to own our part in this. We cant say hes not serious and then cover him in a way that actually demonstrates that we are not serious.
Is he an easy target for righteous criticism? Of course he is. But is he aware that criticism from the mainstream media is invaluable among certain segments of the political right? Of course he is. Is he also aware that hes getting more free publicity for being outrageous than he would ever be willing to buy? Of course he is.
The media is being trolled on a massive scale and we look naïve and silly to have fallen for it, even if he draws readers and viewers. When people refer to the press as the fourth estate, it shouldnt be confused with a Trump property.

(18,402 posts)It is naive and silly. At least with respect to this dog-and-pony show. They are fascinated by the sheer audacity and unfiltered nature of that campaign, but they, indeed, need to get over the gross-out, shock-jock entertainment value of it.

(29,503 posts)to make ratings better, comics masquerading as talk show hosts, and such, so sorry, but yes, the profession that many of you pretend to belong to has been besmirched over the last 30 years by such clownishness.
And it's sad and dangerous because when those in your profession hire themselves out to the highest bidder, compromising integrity as part of a package deal, then a misinformed public is pliable to nuts like Trump.
What can you do.
