What jobs are immigrants doing in your state?

"The results of the survey showed that many immigrants, do in fact work in low paying jobs. For instance, the survey found that janitor or housekeeping was the most common occupation in fifteen states. Immigrants in five states, including California which has the biggest immigrant population in the country, said that they worked in the agricultural industry. We know that farmers rely heavily on immigrant labor to work the fields, because Americans have almost zero interest in doing it. As a matter of fact, Alabama and Georgia both found out how much they rely on immigrant labor in 2011 when they passed anti-immigrant laws and many crops were left rotting in fields as undocumented immigrants fled the states.

In addition to farming and housekeeping, the survey found many immigrants in the South worked in construction jobs. But, what was surprising was how many immigrants in the Northeast, in states like New York and Maine, listed their profession as Home Health Aides and College Professors.

The people who took the survey did not ask whether or not the immigrants were documented or undocumented, but it’s really easy to figure it out. The right says that “illegals” are taking their jobs and they should “do it the right way” but the fact of the matter is, the ones who are doing it the right way are the ones who are in high paying healthcare, technology and teaching jobs. And it’s not because those immigrants are “stealing” our high paying jobs, it’s because our education system isn’t producing enough high-skilled American workers to fill those positions.

While Republicans like Trump try to make the issue of immigration black and white, it is far from a black and white issue. Many, many things contribute to immigration in this country. We have millions of immigrants working their asses off to make this country better, both documented and undocumented; they work hard, because we need them. We know that Americans aren’t going to go out and do back-breaking work in fields for next to nothing and we know that we are not producing enough high-skilled workers to fill many other jobs as well..."

The predominant language spoken by roofing crews is Spanish.

Adjacent to the course are some big apartment buildings, one of which is having a new roof put on. There were about seven guys up there pounding away with a radio blasting out Latin music. One of them waved as I rolled on down the fairway.

I assume "butchers" = "meat packing plants"

Just wrote an obscene check to the contractor and it was only 20% down. Granted, I'm having some overdue maintenance done at the same time, but the insurance company is screwing me over on the roof.

When a hailstorm and high winds blew through our area, there were only two homes that somehow escaped damage to the roofs. What a coincidence that both were insured by State Farm.

In the believe it or not department, they did cut us a small check to have a downspout replaced because it was bent, and to have our 20 year old AC unit "recombed".

I do not think that word means what you think it means...

I have a picture of 4 hailstones that together cover my palm. So golf ball sized hail. Insurance Company rejected my claim for damage to the roof.

We didn't get anything on our roof either. We ended up doing all the work ourselves. Just some shingles here and there, but it really should have qualified for replacement.

The other homeowners I mentioned did the same thing. I think the adjusters were told to find some other little thing that needed fixed as a consolation prize.

Rafael Cruz. The nitwits daddy

If that asshole (or any remotely like him, for that matter) gets within spitting distance of being welcomed in the White House, this country is well and truly screwed.

And yes, I picked that 1st picture on purpose.

Here's the guy looking positively papal:

My Boss is an Immigrant. Came here on a student visa for grad school. Got a job became a citizen all the stuff of the American Dream. Work with many others from around the globe, some immigrants others just here on temporary program before moving to another corp location.

Then there is the cleaning crew. Seem nice enough. None other than a supervisor appear to speak much English. Wonder at times if they are being exploited.

as far as I can see, many of them their own tasty little eateries.

I suspect that all the Latinos disappeared from MSP overnight 2/3 of the non-Asian restaurants would be shuttered the next day. Even the Jewish deli I ate in today has mostly Latinos on the line and making the sandwiches.
