Or is there a limit on the amount she would be able to accept? Anyone have a clue?

(6,409 posts)I imagine the county government is happy to let her take as much money for her legal defense as she can get. Normally, they have to defend her against legal action, but this is a case of wanton recklessness, so the county can bail on her. She would try to go to court to try to force the county to provide her with legal help, and the county would object, and so on, and so on. It's much better this way because it saves the county money and embarrassment.

(94 posts)We just need to make certain she reports it as income. I'm assuming sites like gofundme send a 1099 for tax purposes but I don't know for sure.

(5,417 posts)Any donation under 14,000, or 28k if you are married is tax free.
If she receives 100k, or 250k, its still tax free, since I assume no indivual gift will be over 14k. Most will probably be 10 to 20 dollars.
If somebody does give her 30k, the person making the gift pays taxes on it.

(23,296 posts)She's hired to do a job.
She refuses to do the job according to the law.
She still has a job?

(4,787 posts)The KY legislature could vote to remove her from office. The governor has told her to comply or quit, but he can't fire her either, AFAIK.

(6,376 posts)It appears that there is a prohibition in Kentucky (and probably other states) against "selling or letting the office". There's likely a case to be made that a decision to accept funds from a third party to be used to pay fines could be a selling or letting of the office. Especially in the case that the money is likely coming from groups/individuals who are supporting her decision to act in ways inconsistent with her job description.
This one is likely to get more interesting before her 15 minutes fades. My guess is she's going to do time. She's begging for is and seems like one of those folks who forever wants to tell the story of how they stood of for their god.
We'll see.

(2,886 posts)Apparently this lady who must be late forty to fifty years old has only been "saved" for four years or so. Three divorces? She makes 80 grand a year (a legacy job) in a county where the median family income (from 2010 census) is slightly over $35,000, now planning to get rich off of "Christian" fund me web sites and is really a model for society. Head case or brilliant schemer? Maybe both....disgusting!
