Racist graffiti in Bay City (MI)

... School crews removed the graffiti that was spray-painted on playground equipment at Washington Elementary, 1821 McKinley St., a week before classes are set to begin. One slide on the play structure had "whites only" spray painted on it. Another slide was defaced with a message using the n-word. Other pieces of the play structure were defaced with sexually explicit pictures and messages.

Darold Newton, president of the NAACP Bay City chapter, called the incident unfortunate, but said it's likely an isolated incident.

But Bay City Mayor Christopher Shannon called it troubling and a sign of something more deep-seated. He said more than one Bay City resident has expressed fears to him over an increased African American population in the city.

"What I think you're seeing now are those emotions boiling over in the form of graffiti and hateful messages," he said ...

but with there being only 1% increase in the black population (and that's being generous) and a roughly 3,000 drop in population between 2000 and 2012 (per demographics); a few black people moving in (or out) should be the least of their concerns.

I do think this is an isolated incident but it's still ugly.
