Police: Man threatens to 'kill all white people' in 'purge'-inspired tweet
LA PLATA, Md. -
A Maryland man has been arrested after police say he used social media to make a threat of violence against an entire town.
The message was discovered Wednesday afternoon when La Plata Police were alerted to a post on Twitter that read, “IM NOT GONNA STAND FOR THIS NO. MORE. TONIGHT WE PURGE! KILL ALL THE WHITE PPL IN THE TOWN OF LA PLATA.”
Investigators identified the individual who they say tweeted the threat as 20-year-old Carlos Anthony Hollins of Waldorf, Maryland. Hollins was arrested on Wednesday night without incident, police said.
"Purge" is a reference to the "The Purge" series. Both the original film and its 2014 sequel depict a night in which crime is legal for 12 hours without any consequences.
He faces charges of Threats of Mass Violence.
The investigation is ongoing.
