For example, how many of our readers knew that Trump was successfully sued by the Attorney General of New York for running an illegal educational institution? Students at Trump University paid a whopping $35,000 for Elite mentorships but never even saw their mentor. And heres a juicy little fact that fans of The Godfather and The Sopranos should appreciate: the contracting firm that constructed Trump Tower was owned by a pair of gentlemen who went by the monikers of Fat Tony Salerno and Big Paul Castellano....
It only gets better: Trump was found guilty in federal court of cheating immigrant workers hired to demolish a multi-story building. He paid them less than $5 per hour under the table. He didnt even furnish them with hard hats. Oh, and all that talk from Trump about how hes a self-made billionaire? It turns out that he had a bit of help from the taxpayers of New York. The mayor of NYC at the time, Abe Beame, happened to be good buddies with Donny-boys Daddy, Fred Trump. That little connection got Donald a tax abatement on a mid-town Manhattan property (right next door to Grand Central Station) in 1976. That was the old Commodore Hotel, which today is the Grand Hyatt New York. As of 2016, that little deal that his daddy made for him will have cost taxpayers $400 million....
Incidentally, Donald how do you explain the fact that you paid zero income tax in 1978 and 1979, when you were busy remodeling that fancy Manhattan hotel? In fact, how do you explain not being able to pay your bills back in 1990, despite being a billionaire? And maybe youd like to clarify to voters how you managed to run not one, but four companies into the ground? You want to run the country like you run business?

(36,392 posts)He never wanted to own a football team - he just wanted to sue the NFL on anti-trust grounds and collect a paycheck. And the reason the NFL won the suit is just that - their (counter) claim was that Trump and a couple others were not in the business to own football teams, but merely to gouge the NFL. He talked a majority into moving the USFL season from the spring to the fall, to bring the issue to a head, and they went to court and lost, and that was that. The USFL owners who actually DID want to be a part of pro football were wiped out by Trump's cabal.
The USFL was probably doomed anyway, but even 30 years ago Trump was a con man and huckster.

Of course, we can't forget all the disparaging remarks he's made against women ... arguably some hate there but I guess those are not "racist" ... but he looks down on them - they're not equal
If you're not a lily white male, then in Donald Trump's eyes, you're a second class citizen or worse. That's his 40 year old track record and legacy.
This man is not fit to be president.

(109 posts)As I understand it, the construction industry in NYC in the 1970's was controlled by the mob. If you were a real estate developer in New York at that time I doubt you would have much choice other than to deal with the mob contractors.
Otherwise, Trump is still an idiot and I wish the media would pay more attention to these stories. Perhaps if he wins the GOP nomination these stories will start to be recognized more.

They did not care when we tried to warn them that GWB destroyed 3 oil companies he was handed or that he was a deserter or his cocaine use or his DUI or anything. They do not care.
Don knows this. He knows he can say anything he wants and claim anything he can invent an entire myth and they will eat it up. The people who are the base of the republican party are fascists. The fact that there are so many is terrifying.
