Sanders: 'Not Acceptable' To Jail Young Pot Smokers And Let Big Bank CEOs Walk

WASHINGTON -- Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders isn't terribly impressed with a new Department of Justice pledge to get serious about white-collar crime.

After years of shrugging off criminal prosecutions for Wall Street activity that fueled the 2008 financial crisis, the Department of Justice said Thursday that it will more aggressively target white-collar crime going forward. In a memo, the DOJ said it would now seek to hold both corporations and individual employees accountable for misdeeds.

It's about time, according to Sanders.

"One of the biggest mistakes our government made after the financial crisis was not prosecuting the people responsible for the greed, recklessness and illegal behavior that crashed our economy and ruined the lives of millions of Americans," the socialist senator from Vermont told HuffPost in a written statement. "It is not acceptable that many young people have criminal records for smoking marijuana, while the CEOs of banks whose illegal behavior helped destroy our economy do not."

New DEA Chief: Marijuana Has No Medical Use, Should Stay in Schedule I

The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) made headlines last month by admitting that marijuana is less harmful than heroin, but in a new interview he says that cannabis should not be reclassified under federal law even though “it certainly is not as dangerous as other Schedule I controlled substances.”

Chuck Rosenberg, acting DEA administrator, told Fox News that he doesn’t “frankly see a reason to remove” marijuana from Schedule I, a category that’s supposed to be reserved for drugs that have a high potential for abuse and no legitimate medical value.

it has already been proven to have some pretty remarkable medical applications.

I remember a candidate that once ran that said such decisions would be based on science, who was that guy? I would vote for a guy like that.

Oh that's right I did vote for him, and he proved himself a liar regarding all his appointments and most of his positions..
