and come get them. They are getting on my last nerve, dammit. Imagine if Jesus did do that, and spared us the rest of our lives dealing with them. Talk about peace on Earth. It would be fucking amazing.

Do you know why the fundies are obsessed with protecting Israel? Because there needs to be an Israel around so it can be destroyed in the End-Times. If Iran or ISIS or Hezbollah or whoever destroys Israel (What happens if Israel incorporates all the Palestinians and ceases to be a jewish "kingdom"?) then the plan for the End-Times gets messed up.

Israel must live so the Jews can be sacrificed at the right time to ensure that the Christians go to heaven.

I'm dead-fucking-serious.

Which would pretty much guarantee Armageddon. There's that as part of it. Then there's that dude breeding red cows for the temple sacrifice. Yup! He calls himself Christian, too.

our local county commissioner (liberal) explained to me that his compromises are with people who want horrible things to happen so their religious beliefs are proven correct. They do not want clean air and water and they don't want to protect the natural world etc. His frustration was great because people do not realize how nuts these people really are and the rationale for their decisions.

They want war so that people are punished. They don't necessarily disbelieve climate science, but doubt its severity and love pissing off liberals. It's not that they really believe in a Jesusy afterlife, either--watch how they relieve the poor--but they cling to the tribal show of belief, and above all they are authoritarians eager to kneel before the rich.
