(winning all 4 majors in one calendar year) which is very, very rare. And this was against an unseeded player who had like 300-1 odds of winning.

Now I understand the upset! Wow those are huge odds, was she just not playing at 100% or was the unknown player just playing that well?

at least in the last few games of the match which is all I saw. I'm at work and my lunch break coincided with the end of the match so I managed to see the end. I don't know how the first couple sets went.

And I read the odds on another thread, so it may or may not be accurate, but it sounds about right. Vinci was unseeded in this tournament and rarely makes it as far as the quarterfinals, let alone to a semifinal against someone like Serena, so it wouldn't surprise me if it really was considered 300-1.

Whatever happens, she beat one of the best ever female tennis players in the world.

How 'bout them apples?

I love me some Serena, but I am a total sucker for the underdog!

On paper, Serena should have killed Vinci. But every athlete has a bad day. And sometimes the opponent has a better day. And they play the game for a reason. Upsets happen in sports.

It's a tough loss. It will sting. But she'll get over it. Sometimes in sports, things are just not meant to be. That's all you can say about it.

Who needs the expense, the traffic, the construction dust?

And all the Greek restaurants that would no longer be able to use signage that says Olympic or Olympia.

I'm sure there's a Hillary and Bernie analogy in there.

Vinci always seemed like a grinder, often over her head, but never giving up.

Don't worry about the spoiler, I recorded the match, but I'm still watching the French Open. This will be new to me by the time I get around to watching it.
