So you only believe the 4 gospels which are written to the Jews - ok didn't know you were Jewish but that's good to know - Paul only reflects what Jesus says - for Christians Jesus is the one we imitate - Paul writes for us - gospels apply too but Jesus hardly ever addresses Gentiles in the gospels look & see for yourself - that is the mystery spoke of that since the Jews rejected him - we now partake of what they were to do to spread the good news- GOD is for everyone not just the Jews salvation comes thru Christ thru grace & faith.
I have NEVER heard this interpretation in my life. We have to have Paul because Jesus only talked to Jews?
Paul is a revisionist asshole. I asked her what she expected Paul to say? He got his revelations from the Governor of Rome.
smh....
Arguing about the baptism of Smurfs makes more sense.

(61,622 posts)If you point out inconvenient things that Paul said, she'll probably blame that on the Jews too.

(17,111 posts)Growing up I went to plenty of them of different faiths. I went when I was visiting relatives and whatever. When I tell you this is new to me, I mean new. Not once have I ever heard that Paul was the way to Jesus or that he interpreted him to us Gentiles. EVER.

(12,157 posts)I allows them to basically throw Jesus' teachings under the bus as for Jews and then to give extreme emphasis to the writing of Paul. Now what do they say about James.
James 2:14-26
14What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him?i 15If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, 16and one of you says to them, Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it?j 17So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
18Indeed someone might say, You have faith and I have works. Demonstrate your faith to me without works, and I will demonstrate my faith to you from my works. 19You believe that God is one. You do well. Even the demons believe that and tremble. 20Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless? 21Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered his son Isaac upon the altar?k 22You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by the works. 23Thus the scripture was fulfilled that says, Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness, and he was called the friend of God.l 24See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25And in the same way, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she welcomed the messengers and sent them out by a different route?m 26For just as a body without a spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.

Paul is a Puritan.

(28,979 posts)If you are born saved, good works are not a necessity. Even good thought or deed is irrelevant. Saved is saved. Only faith matters.
It certainly seems to cut Christ out of the loop completely if you ask me.

The epic size and majesty of the universe stands on its own - no supernatural explanation is needed, especially in light of the fact that no laws of physics are cheated or broken by the universe arising from a fluctuation in the eternal quantum foam. The inflation theory neatly ties up a huge number of previously intractable problems and has been confirmed by all the experiments and theorizing since Alan Guth and Andrei Linde first brainstormed it 35 years ago. It's not the last word, but it's a long step in that direction.
Douglas Adams speaks for me:
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

(65,616 posts)So IOW...there was never a DIRECT source for what Jesus said, written down during his life. NONE. ZIP. Everything Paul writes is from second hand knowledge which is next to worthless in most cases.
