‘Young Black Thugs’ Need To Be ‘Put Down Like The Dogs They Are,’ Says Louisiana School Psychologist

Mark Traina, a school psychologist in Louisiana, has been using his twitter account to spew racially-charged accusations about “young black thugs,” and now the Souther Poverty Law Center (SPLC) is highlighting his comments in a civil rights complaint against the Jefferson Parish School Board. The complaint alleges that black students and disabled students are sent to “alternative” schools at a significantly higher rate than white students.

Below are Traina’s most damning tweets about black people and Trayvon Martin:

We are faced with a young Black Army of Thugs who have declared War on the American Way of Life-Holding America Hostage as we speak!

Young Black Thugs have created an atmosphere of Fear throughout America. The Real Terrorist live among us! Not over seas! Right here and now

Protesters march in Florida town where Trayvon Martin was shot: Black people need to STOP shooting one another!

But Traina’s opinions go even further than personal hatred for black youth. On his twitter account, he also goes into his politics (“Can President Obama win re-election if almost two-thirds of whites are opposed to him?” he writes). He also voiced strong support for Alabama’s segregationist Governor George Wallace, Colorlines reports:

In another tweet about the Republican presidential primaries in March, Traina wrote, “I grew up in Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana – I am a Wallace Man at Heart!”

“It’s particularly alarming to have someone who works for the school system in a position of authority be pro-segregation,” Eden Heilman, a lawyer with the Southern Poverty Law Center told NOLA.com, referring to Traina’s remark about George Wallace, segregationist governor of Alabama.

The Jefferson Parish School Board is already investigating Traina’s tweets.

The problem I see is that others in the school probably knew this guy and how he thinks. He may end up being the scape goat for a bunch of folks that aren't much different from him.

Maybe the school will let him go, and our prison system will hire him right back up.

It doesn't matter what title they hold, education level they have or what field they are in, they are proud to be stupid, wrong and big-mouthed.

I'm not sure where to safely house them--surely not where they can affect children--but I think it helps younger people realize how far we've come and how quickly, and what the civil rights activists have been up against.

That was only 50 years ago--a speck of geologic time.

His outrageousness almost solidifies gains, just like when homophobes overreach, thus pushing moderates to the left, out of sheer embarrassment of being affiliated with that level of extremism.

with the most problems are confined to the small "public" sector that remained after 'shock doctrine' charterization.

In the wake of the Southern Poverty Law Center filing numerous complaints against the Jefferson County School System for, they allege, sending “a disproportionate number of black and disabled students to alternative schools to languish for months,” the school is under even heavier fire after it was discovered that a school psychologist posted a slew of racially incendiary comments on Twitter.

You'd think a school psychologist would be educated.

Educated? Minimally perhaps. Enlightened? Certainly not.

Must have gotten his job through the Good Ole Boy Network.

Not that there's any connection, but I can't imagine her ever being so hateful and unprofessional. This person needs to lose their job.

Hopefully, he will lose his job.
