Shocking footage has emerged of two pitbulls savaging a man on the streets of the Bronx in New York City as bystanders bravely attempt to pull them away.
Filmed from an apartment above the road, the middle aged man is left lying in a pool of his own blood after the crazed dogs drag him across the road in the prolonged mauling.
The entire incident was recorded by a woman at the apartment overlooking the street, who is also heard speaking to emergency services on the phone.

Don't blame the dog - blame the owner.

(6,409 posts)The problem is, pit bulls are the best fighting dogs. This attracts a certain type of person, the type of person willing to inflict serious injury on others, like Republicans, but without the sophisticated military hardware. Many pit bull owners train and socialize their dogs to attack people. It's like the whole gun control thing. The owners are at fault, but the dogs enable their bad tendencies.

(3,580 posts)That must be me. I've had 3 pitbulls, I don't look for a breed, dogs find me. I've had far more hound dogs in my life. I'm 65 years old, vegan and female. The pit I have now for the past 10 years is a rescue. I have a hound and a shepherd mix. The shepherd is the more aggressive. The pit can be taken anywhere.

(6,409 posts)You're socializing your dog correctly. So is my sister in law. So is my neighbor. They both ownp it bulls, and both dogs are sweethearts, because they belong to nice people, not mean people. That bumper sticker should read, "Mean people suck. And so do their dogs."

(3,580 posts)If I had a dog that was dangerous and I made an effort to rehab it and failed, I would put it down in the kindest way. Training dogs to attack people is so unfair to the dog.

Riverside County sheriff's deputies responding on Tuesday morning to reports of a dog attack in North Shore, a community on the shores of the Salton Sea about 100 miles east of San Diego, found a man dead in the front yard of a home there, the sheriff's department said in a written statement.
As deputies investigated they heard a woman cry for help and found her being attacked by two dogs, according to the statement.

A 65-year-old man was killed and a woman seriously hurt when they were attacked by two pit bulls in Southern California, police and local media said on Wednesday.

(6,409 posts)They have good images of the dogs and some of the people standing around, one of whom may be the owner. It should be relatively easy to track down the owner and haul him into court. Well, it would be easy, if the cops weren't so busy trying to cause trouble for the mayor, but that's anther story. I hope the owner has lots of money, so the victim gets a big payout.

The victim will likely have to deal with these injuries for the rest of his life.

(65,408 posts)belt in a desperate attempt to drive one dog away from Mr. Bove. Then that dog went after Mr. Ortiz pretty relentlessly, and then the dogs seem to have changed their focus to attacking anyone that tried to intervene.
I am amazed at the bravery of those many neighbors who put their own bodies between the dogs and Mr. Bove, especially the man at the beginning who did so alone for a while. They all deserve to be publicly honored.
I was, however, appalled by the apparent foolishness of the people who seemed tohank around as "lookie-loos," as though this were a performance put on for their entertainments. One man seems to have had a child with him--probably a daughter. He should have gotten the child to safety as soon as he saw what was going on.
And then there were those who nonchalantly sauntered by, as though it was a TV show rather than real life, so they didn't need to worry about being attacked by the agitated dogs. At the end one such saunterer looks back over his shoulder and sees something that causes him to reconsider his noncalant attitude and glacial pace.

(32 posts)What a coincidence to come across this post. In Jacksonville, FL we received a man just last week who was mauled by four pit bulls. Apparently people tried to stop the attack, however the dogs did not stop chewing until he became unresponsive. Dude had both of his ears torn off and exsanguinated in the street. He has required multiple trips to the OR for continuing care. It does not appear nurture overcomes nature in this breed.

(115,677 posts)Training your dogs to attack and directing them to should lead to long prison sentence. In this case it was nurture, not nature.

(18,868 posts)Than having a loaded gun. You set dogs on someone and it's attempted manslaughter.
We had a case here in KC where people had a boxer cross that had bitten someone when they lived in Lee's Summit, Mo. They moved to KC. A friend was visiting with her toddler. One of the kids let the dog in the house and it attacked the baby. Baby lived.
But those people were arrested for a whole slew of felony charges and were being held on about $50,000 bond. They are looking at some really serious jail time.
Harboring a dangerous animal is a really serious matter. And it's not just pits. There are other breeds that are just as dangerous. Cane Corso are like pits on steroids and they are one of the breeds growing fastest in popularity.
