78-year-old man punched in face over Nutella samples at Costco in Burbank CA

A 78-year-old Costco shopper in Burbank, Calif., allegedly was punched in the face over the weekend after getting into an argument with another customer taking samples of Nutella waffles from a cart, KTLA reported.

Derrick Gharabighi, 24, of Burbank took multiple samples when the older man told him to take only one, police said.

Gharabighi is accused of punching the older man in the face. Police said the unidentified 78-year-old man was hospitalized with swelling and a one-inch cut.

Gharabighi will appear in court later this week after being arrested on suspicion of elder abuse.

Seriously, I hate trying to negotiate Costco when they are giving out lots of samples. I have bruises from the shopping carts shoved into me and heaven knows how a kid hasn't gotten badly hurt by some of these people..

No excuse for that kind of crap. I've had Elders yelling in my face at one time or another. My response is: "Well, I see you're pretty upset." The thought of punching their face never crosses my mind. (OK...Dick Chaney...yes)

I worked for TSA at a major airport. Yes, I was one of those people who made you take off your shoes in the security line. It was a real treat when all the old guys came through security, headed for France of a D-Day charter trip, or maybe Hawaii on a Pearl Harbor trip. When you have that many guys in their 90s, whacking you with their canes, yelling at you, complaining about having to go through security because "I'm a veteran!" and so on, it's a real hoot. I had one guy ask me, "Can you find where I his the dynamite?" When we had a WWII veterans charter flight, I volunteered. I just loved those guys and their bad behavior. I figured it was their last shot at having some adventure, reliving youthful exploits, etc. Do I think old people deserve respect just for being old? To some extent, yes. Certainly, I would never punch an elderly man for calling me out as greedy.

He had the time of his life.

Speaking of TSA, Joe Foss was flying out of Phoenix to attend a Congressional Medal of Honor gathering. He had his medal in his pocket and a TSA agent told him he had to surrender it because it looked like a weapon (throwing star?).

(Sure he was a republican, but he was the first airman to get 26 kills in WWII.

People go berserk over the free samples. I have seen a family of six surround the demo cart and lock access by anyone else while they shoveled in the chicken nuggets. Shopping carts running into each other. Little kids being knocked down. People acting like assholes. All for a few bites of free food.

and the store is pretty empty, so I fly through check out. But food sample people are always pleasant and sometimes they encourage you to try two, and the other customers, (few that there are) are always very nice about waiting their turn to get a sample. I know it is not the area because I used to shop at BJs and people would rip open cookies to get free samples there. you would constantly walk into food strewn in the aisle - so when Costco opened, I switched to there. They also clean up right away.

Fun watching little old Jewish ladies from the over-55 condos out maneuver the Haitian immigrants at the food demos with skilled use of their elbows which they learned over the years in New York.

One old dude yelled at me one relatively mild February day (it was circa 50 degrees) because I was only wearing a tshirt and jeans. I'm radioactive so it didn't bother me. He keeps yelling at me "where's your sweater? It's not summer!" He kept repeating that.

Like WTF old man, I'm a 35 year old woman, I can take care of myself.

I was so shocked over that I wasn't ready with a quick response.
