KEARNEY, Neb. After six years of witnessing her daughter compete in the Miss Amazing Pageant, Barb Rasmussen began to cry as her 5-foot-7, brown-haired, brown-eyed daughter Amber was crowned Miss Amazing Miss Nebraska 2015 in the Senior Miss category.
I couldnt believe it when I heard her name called. She worked so hard all these years, said Rasmussen, a licensed practical nurse at Kearney Clinic.
Her 28-year-old daughter Amber isnt a typical crown-wearing pageant girl. She sees life differently because she has Aspergers syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism.
We knew something was different about Amber when she started school. She would be found happily playing by herself while the rest of the kids were playing together, Barb said.
