Stephen Colbert is doing a great job so far, Trump tonight, Cruz last night

Wow, looks like Colbert is going to be a great replacement for David Letterman.

He had Cruz on last night, Colbert was polite but he did ask some serious questions. He corrected Cruz that the US constitution does not say anything about marriage. And he got Cruz to voice opposition to Ronald Reagan on several issues.

Tonight he had Trump on and again was mostly polite, but he told Trump he would throw him an easy super softball question to hit out of the park... do you think the president was born in the United States?

Trump refused to answer!

Don't have a video link but it should be at the CBS website

Colbert is looking like everything I was hoping he would be, and there is Elizabeth Warren tomorrow night!

Colbert is OK. But Letterman rules for telling O'Reilly "60% of what you say is crap." Hoyt Sep 2015 #2
You do realize Colberts previous show was pretty much 5+ years daily parody of O'Reilly? KelleyKramer Sep 2015 #3
I think Colbert is the best choice for the new host, but I grew up with Letterman. Hoyt Sep 2015 #4

I grew up with Letterman and liked him alot, and was a little worried Colbert wouldn't be able fill his shoes.

But as far as O'Reilly goes... pretty sure Colbert has that covered!

I like Colbert' emphasis on politics. The Iran nuke guy was really good tonight.

Gonna be a good one.

Maybe he was a hair light on Trump tonight, but it was still infinitely better than the tongue bath Fallon gave last week.

I think Stephen was practicing the give-him-enough-rope... strategy in the interview. I would have rather seen him grill him, like he did Cruz, but it's not my show.

Still, overall, the political interviews have been great.

No one ever, ever replaces Dave in my heart (I went to NYC to catch one of his final week's shows), but Colbert is a damn good follow-up.
