Pope Francis: Church should stop being obsessed with abortion, gay marriage and Contraception

https://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/09/19/1239960/-STUNNER-from-Pope-Church-Should-Stop-Being-Obsessed-with-Abortion-Gay-marriage-and-Contraception?detail=email

Pope Francis, in the first extensive interview of his six-month-old papacy, said that the Roman Catholic church had grown “obsessed” with preaching about abortion, gay marriage and contraception, and that he has chosen not to speak of those issues despite recriminations from some critics.

Pope Francis said the church needs to be a "home for all" rather than a "small chapel" sticking to a narrow set of so-called moral teachings.

“It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time,” the pope told the Rev. Antonio Spadaro, a fellow Jesuit and editor in chief of La Civiltà Cattolica, the Italian Jesuit journal whose content is routinely approved by the Vatican. “The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church’s pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently.
“We have to find a new balance,” the pope continued, “otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.”

And as long as LGBT have no rights.

And as long no women are allowed to be priests.

There're still these things. But the RCC is for freedom as long as they are not asked to cross these lines.

Then, there's the priest buggary, still not resolved.

Sorry, Francis. You still have a lot of work to do. I won't hold my breath, or mention anything about the size of the Vatican Bank which could easily bring such things about.

Oopsie! I just brought it up. Too bad for you, I guess.

[font style="font-family:'Georgia','Baskerville Old Face','Helvetica',fantasy;" size=4 color=teal]Don't talk about all the stuff that gives the church bad press.

Do it in private instead. That way we can still be bigots while fooling the gullible into not realizing it.

This was today! Before Congress!

His statement that most closely allied him with Republicans was in defense of traditional families — clearly signaling the church’s continuing opposition to gay marriage.

“I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without,” he said. “Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life.”

It went like the reason why it became such a hot issue is because it was the only issue that linked bible-thumping protestants, mostly in the South, to Northeastern ethnic Catholics.
