Vatican: Pope's encounter with Kim Davis not a form of support for her position
VATICAN CITY - The Vatican on Friday distanced Pope Francis from Kim Davis, the focal point in the gay marriage debate in the U.S., saying she was one of dozens of people the pope greeted in Washington and that their encounter "should not be considered a form of support of her position."
After days of confusion, the Vatican issued a statement Friday clarifying the circumstances of Francis' Sept. 24 encounter with Davis, a Kentucky county clerk who was jailed for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses.
In a statement, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, said Francis met with "several dozen" people at the Vatican's embassy in Washington just before leaving for New York.
Lombardi said such meetings are normal on any Vatican trip and are due to the pope's "kindness and availability." He said Francis really had only one "audience" in Washington: with one of his former students and his family. "The pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects," Lombardi said.

(4,246 posts)1. It would help a great deal if the pope
Would denounce her position since the meeting should not be considered support.
A little clarity please.

He seems to think the people in the Vatican should do their jobs. This is a 'do your job' issue.

(6,671 posts)3. So, that lying bigot made it seem like she had a private meeting with the Pope
while she was just in a room with several dozen people, just shaking his hand ... the Pope probably didn't even know who she was?

This is what happens when you lie about your two minutes with the pope.
Did they really think they could put words in his mouth without the Vatican noticing or commenting? Those are some dumb people.
