Statistics Show White Supremacy Is a Bigger Threat to the US Than Radical Muslims

http://readersupportednews.org/opinion2/277-75/32768-statistics-show-white-supremacy-is-a-bigger-threat-to-the-us-than-radical-muslims

The New York Times reported back in June that since Sept. 11, 2001, almost twice as many people have died at the hands of white supremacists and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims. Using data compiled by New America, a Washington Research center, a study found that 48 people have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim—including the mass killings in Charleston, S.C.—compared to the 26 by self-proclaimed jihadists. However, this does not factor in yesterday’s tragic shooting or less publicized incidents like the Las Vegas couple who murdered two police officers and left a Swastika on one of the bodies.

These stats reveal a vast difference between public perception and the number of actual cases in which Muslim extremists have claimed American lives. So why aren’t more people outraged about domestic terrorists? Because then we’d have to admit that white supremacy is still a problem.

I sadly, actually know a few, very few, that support 'white supremacy' even though they don't always acknowledge it even though they do spout it. I have never run across a Muslim that advocates violence.

Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't any, just that I have never run into them and I tend to believe what I see and hear from humans at least.

4. According to the OP, extremists claiming to be Muslim are responsible for roughly 1/3 of the deaths

I doubt they are 1/3 of the Muslim population, let alone 1/3 of the general population.

If 5% of the pop is Muslim, but they're responsible for 1/3 the murders, which group is really more of a danger?
Not to mention this group plays loose with the facts anyway

Without factoring relative pop. size per group, this is less than useless.

a slightly different study found that 48 people have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim—including the mass killings in Charleston, S.C.—compared to the 3003 by self-proclaimed jihadists.

so that

over 60 times as many people have died at the hands of radical Muslims than by white supremacists and other non-Muslim extremists.

But let's not draw any hasty conclusions from those numbers--they could mean anything.

Homegrown Extremists Tied to Deadlier Toll Than Jihadists in U.S. Since 9/11

But the breakdown of extremist ideologies behind those attacks may come as a surprise. Since Sept. 11, 2001, nearly twice as many people have been killed by white supremacists, antigovernment fanatics and other non-Muslim extremists than by radical Muslims: 48 have been killed by extremists who are not Muslim, including the recent mass killing in Charleston, S.C., compared with 26 by self-proclaimed jihadists, according to a count by New America, a Washington research center.

In regard to RSN...it'd snagged the information from Yahoo news. IMHO, when articles preface text with a random pic of a guy holding the "Confederate" flag...it's not seeking healing and understanding but meant to incite.

Dont see many mixed race folks accepted in the white supremacist world. And if this is the same "study" from earlier this year, they left out some of the killings by muslims that didnt make headlines
ETA: Wonder how many deaths have been prevented by plots, from either group, that were caught before they could be carried out? I'd bet that would show a different story

12. Yet the actual numbers of mass shootings and individual murders continues to drop.
Tue Oct 6, 2015, 08:18 AM

There was a spike during the summer, but still the numbers of killings is still going down.

So what exactly is the big difference?

News media coverage.

When I was a kid, we'd see it on TV news, usually a half a day after it happned, at best.
Or read about it in newspapers or magazines, days or even weeks later.

When my parents were kids, murders were covered mostly by newsapers, days afterwards.

Nowadays?
We just about see them as they happen, in fact, sometimes we do see them as they happen.
And there are many different sources, some with clear biases, especially biases towards racial or religious groups, or conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones, WND, Media Research Center or talk radio blatherers.
