If you're ever the victim of a gunshot wound, surely you'd rather have a highly successful surgeon like Ben Carson working to save your life than a writer like me.
But when it comes to preventing bodies from being riddled with bullets in the first place, trust me when I say you don't want Carson anywhere near the policy-making apparatus of the United States.
Carson took to Facebook Monday night to answer a question about whether the recent mass shooting in Roseburg, Oregon, changed his thoughts about the Second Amendment.
"There is no doubt that this senseless violence is breathtaking," Carson wrote, "but I never saw a body with bullet holes that was more devastating than taking the right to arm ourselves away."

(15,315 posts)That right trumps bullet hole riddled bodies. All their arguments are attempts at covering up that ugly fact. Many rationalize to themselves it isn't what they're doing and that's why they get ugly when you attempt to point this out. They don't want to see that truth. They want to believe that it's two separate issues. That it's really about mental illness. That it's really about "getting to the root cause" That it's the constitution and not how it's misinterpreted. Then they can believe they're justified.

(2,062 posts)And you wonder why Johns Hopkins has washed their hands of this guy.
Miles Archer
(18,837 posts)...if you really are a "gifted surgeon," in my opinion, you perform surgeries until you're 100 and then have 10,000 people attend your funeral while they erect a statue of you in the park.
This guy's not doing that.
rtracey
(2,062 posts)And, now I am not sure why he stopped, but wouldn't you think a gifted Johns Hopkins renown surgeon would be in demand, if not for surgery, but for teaching? Maybe he has had offers and turned them down....I don't know....

(15,139 posts)outcry and pressure for strict gun control if the media published photos of the victims' bullet ridden bodies -- with family members approval of course. The press sanitizes the aftermath of the slaughter by not publishing such pictures. Photos of the dead children at Sandy Hook might have seared the public conscience enough to shame lawmakers into taking at least baby steps to make changes. The public should not continue to be shielded from the carnage.

(118,282 posts)for such bullet holes, so perhaps there's some reason to regard this as a major public health problem.
The cost is substantial, too: on average it seems to be around $17000, with $35000 as a survivor cost and at least $12000 for a fatality.
The insurance companies might be happy to see their costs reduced here

Of course he hasn't. It's hard to see when you have your head up your ass. Or the ass of the NRA - either way....

(631 posts)Ben Carson oversaw a national prayer breakfast a couple of years ago, and it went straight to his head. Now, this religious nut is running for president (excuse me, I just laughed so hard I swallowed my gum!). Don't say you were not warned if you contunue to allow the prayer breakfast to go on. In case anyone hasn't noticed, the Repiblican Party has a lot more religious nut jobs waiting in the wings - and they all want to be your president!
