http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/peoplesdaily/article-3261778/Tourists-left-screaming-terror-brand-new-glass-bottom-walkway-cracks-feet-3-540-feet-high-China.htmlA group of Chinese tourists were left screaming in terror yesterday on the side of a 3,540 ft high cliff after a glass pane on a new transparent walkway suddenly shattered.
A visitor posted pictures of what she claimed was the cracked glass on Chinese social media. She said she could feel the shake under her feet the moment when the glass broke, reported People's Daily Online.
The U-shaped platform is attached to a cliff face on Yuntai Mountain, Henan Province, and opened to the public on September 20. Authorities have confirmed the incident and closed the tourist attraction for repair works.
I think I would have a hard time walking that bridge!

(25,618 posts)I don't know if it was in the same area, it went across a ravine and was very high up. The glass didn't seem very thick and I thought, nope, this is asking for big trouble. I almost peed in my pants just looking at it.

(15,038 posts)no horror story about China and its non-existent regulations is too absurd anymore, no nightmare of shoddy workmanship or criminal cost-cutting measures too wild to be discounted. Hard to take that country seriously or be satisfied with its quality controls. I'd step gingerly walking on Chinese sidewalks, let alone a glass "trap door" 2/3 of a mile up.

ATLANTA One construction worker was killed and 18 others were injured Friday when an elevated pedestrian walkway they were building collapsed at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Fourteen of those hurt were hospitalized, eight of them in serious or critical condition at Grady Memorial Hospital. Their injuries included fractures and head and spinal damage.

My sister was on another part of this walkway when it collapsed and was not injured physically.

2009 Peanut Butter Outbreak: Three Years On, Still No Resolution for Some
Clifford Tousignants family tells a similar story. The decorated Korean War veteran and devoted great grandfather fell ill from Salmonella in his peanut butter sandwiches around the same time. After struggling against the infection for weeks, he died in January 2009 at the age of 78, a year and a half short of his goal to outlive his father.
Almer and Tousignant were two of the nine victims who died in the 2008-2009 Salmonella peanut butter outbreak that sickened at least 714 Americans across 46 states. The outbreak, one of the deadliest and widespread in U.S. history, resulted in recalls of 3,913 different products made by 361 companies. It captured national attention and even attracted commentary from President Barack Obama, who said parents shouldnt have to worry about their childrens peanut butter, something his daughter Sasha ate for lunch probably three times a week.

in their right mind will want to try it out once they say it is "safe".

(1,858 posts)of the other pane of glass that cracked beneath them. That doesn't sound like what someone screaming in terror or even slightly concerned about their safety would do.
