U.S. Representative Darrell Issa, a California Republican, on Friday said he is considering running for U.S. House speaker after the conservative partys leading candidate abruptly quit the race on Thursday.
I am considering whether or not to put my name in the hat, Issa said in an interview on CNBC.
Starting this morning, were looking for a consensus candidate, he said, added that if no such candidate emerges House Republicans should consider rebuilding their entire leadership slate.

(1,156 posts)You know the GOP has gone off the deep end if they even consider giving this job to this shyster. Talk about wasting taxpayer $$ now, just wait if this moron gets the office. Sheesh...

(10,279 posts)behavior would complete the destruction of Tea Party in the House -- there would be chaos. Six years ago, most of us saw this coming. We warned the mainstream Republicans, but they enjoyed the Tea Party antics directed against Democrats too much to act in their own best interest. Now, there's only time for non-Tea Party Republicans to make a final stand and act responsibly. Make a coalition with the House Democrats and move forward with the Nation's business.

(2,529 posts)Boehner covered for a lot of asshattery with his passive aggressive crying. I think America deserves to see the repulsive behavior of the Republicans front and center by having one of its most dickish members front and center.

(11,175 posts)He's implicitly suggesting that, in light of their inability to analyze the situation and come to a sensible conclusion, they should instead just go random. Everybody who wants to be Speaker writes his or her name on a piece of paper and drops the paper into a hat. Somebody with no stake in the matter (Boehner would be an obvious choice) mooshes the papers around to mix them up, then pulls one out.
Scoff if you will, but it would probably be an improvement over what's actually going on.
