1 teacher
30 students
= 2 minutes per student per hour
or 16 minutes per student in an 8 hour day.
that's if you DON'T:
eat lunch
pee
drink a glass of water
check your teacher email
don't have a sick kid who needs more than his allotted of two minutes per hour
don't have any students with behavior issues who demand more than two minutes
don't have to write a note home
don't have any phone calls
don't have to dig up some money to cover lunch for a hungry kid
don't have to do first aid
don't have recess/cafeteria/hall/bus duty
don't have a single piece of paperwork to do
or any meetings
or any parents who want to have a discussion
don't have to mop your own classroom because they laid off the janitors
or take out your own garbage
or have to make up snack bags of food out of your own pocket to send home with that skinny kid who looks hungry
or make your own curriculum since that budget was cut too
or have meds to give out
or.....
Mr. Romney, you have your head up your ass if you think bigger classrooms have no impact.

(3,888 posts)i love teaching but i never go home feeling like i got enough done.
between late august and mid-june i don't have one waking moment when i am not with students, evaluating their work, preparing lessons, or feeling guilty for not paying attention to my charge's needs.
we need fewer students in classrooms not more.
i bet mr romney never had to share classroom space with 29 others at cranbrook, bully-boy prep.
he didn't even have to put up with others who had different hairdos.
