I challenge members of DU to do the following:

1. Spend some time on other websites and respond to comments critical of Democrats with facts.

2. Challenge the use of "Democrat Party" in every instance.

3. Challenge the use of "American People" used in the following contexts -

[Fill in the name of any Democrat] -- "doesn't respect the American People", or "hates America" or other statement where the poster - one individual - professes to speak on behalf of all of the American people. Obama does this or that all by himself - the American people are really upset with him. Republican members of Congress say, the American people sent us here to do "x"

I've noticed more and more that Republicans use "Democrat Party" unchallenged when on TV or in interviews. We have to challenge this - we choose how to describe ourselves, we don't allow other people to do so.

I've also noticed the growing use of "the American people" when any conservative speaks with disapproval about anything that a Democrat, including Obama supports.

republicans know schoolyard bully tactics very, very well. they know that in the playground, the bully usually wins, and the bright kids with the good ideas don't win by correcting the bully's grammar.

there are other ways to defeat the bully, but correcting the grammar isn't it.

at least, not just in such a straightforward fashion. you have to do it in a way that makes everyone laugh at the bully. but you can't make the joke be simply because they're stupid or made a grammar mistake, because then you alienate a lot of people who make the same mistake (in no small part because they've been taught that for decades).

not an easy task.

Getting all pissy about a name is, well, just pissy. Makes us look bad. The issues are what are important.

just better to take our potshots on the offensive, rather than on the defensive.

the high ground is great and all, but when there's a bully around, it's more effective when you show you can fight too.

Laughing at bullies puts them off their game. They really have a hard time dealing with facts so they resort to bullying. Best we just laugh at them and keep facts flying.
