Bill Maher made an interesting point about a commonality between many spree shooters

He showed a number of recent spree shooters, and they were all young men who couldn't get laid, so decided to take out their sexual frustration on others.

And, they had access to guns, of course.

edit: Here's the video. Start at 1:56

The flaw in that plan is the lousy record keeping of the gunners. There will be many reoccurring virgins and it will sell more guns.

But what we're really talking about is people who have nothing to lose. If we don't want things like this happening, there needs to be room for everyone in society, or we should just be honest about it and throw them into the societal paper shredder and say that they were "unworthy."

We need to quit the virgin shaming or whatever it is called. Let people be who they are sexually. Why make people feel bad about "not getting laid?" That makes getting laid seem like nothing more than a reward of some kind when it is about a relationship. It objectifies both sexes so the "reward" is nothing unless someone else knows about it, too. That means that which is private had to be made public or it is not of any use.

Though Bill Maher has no real proof of this - how do we know they were not "getting laid." It's a good guess but there is no proving it.

The results of that are lack of opportunities, both for mating and for supporting yourself. It's a kind of sick darwinism, and the people who advocate for it are always puzzled when the people subject to it lash out in a predictable fashion rather than rolling over and dying quietly...although I'm sure there are a lot of the latter as well.

I favor your idea- the outdated model of "winning" people of the opposite gender and that being the required focus of everyone is cringeworthy when you look at it objectively.

determines whether you're a human being and belong or not, that's what happens.

At the same time, having sex IS one of the most basic things that can make a person feel like s/he belongs. It can feel like the ultimate alienation if you can't.

It's hilarious to make jokes about people who are so alienate they can't even achieve one of the most basic biological functions, though. Hilarious.

Sat Oct 17, 2015, 12:54 PM
Oct 2015

Because women refuse to have relationships with walking wounded psycho nutjobs? Sadly, we all know that isn't true.

But is it really just that the "perfect" women they think are worthy of attention reject them? The women who might form friendships with them or date them aren't ever seen as worth their time. Those women don't pick up guns and become mass shooters. Instead they find partners who look for real women not centerfold masturbation fantasies.

Sorry, blaming their mothers, the girls who reject them, their teachers, society just doesn't cut it with me.

If you can't control your impulse to go out of this world with guns blazing, go join the effing Army. Or kill yourself. Do the world a favor.

1). These guys are paid-in-full celebrities in The celebrity culture, USA.

2). They will be remembered far longer than any of us after we are dead.

3). Opinion-makers, researchers, & scandal rags will pore over their ofal and bad grammar for far longer than a Hollywood script.

4). Museums and collectors will re-charge their Histories from time-to-time with retrospectives, movies, biopics, and.... more research.

5). Their pictures (the more ghoulish the better) dominate all news.

6). Their lives are secondary; who needs to be around in the last chapter when you already know the ending?

7). People in intellectual-type places and sites will talk about them and see their pictures. A lot (see above).

Sat Oct 17, 2015, 04:14 PM
Oct 2015

No one is. Not you, not me, not these guys. Maybe something is fundamentally wrong with them that they cannot connect with anyone enough to have a relationship or sex with, or maybe they have an overwhelming sense of entitlement to women (in all the cases I can recall, they have been heterosexual men) and this kind of skews their approach. Women can sense when someone is a little "off" or creepy. As can most people of any gender, I expect. There is a reason women do not go near these men. But these guys prefer to blame their problems on someone or something else, instead of trying to fix what is broken in them.

Get this guys: women owe you NOTHING. Not sex, not friendship, not anything. But of course our society says otherwise. Women are mere objects for men to use. That is the message we get from advertisers, from the media, from culture. And it is toxic.

But these men have internalized this message to such a degree that they do not see women as human. They are mere trophies for them to earn. So women and by extension those men who are successful at attracting women (because they are reasonable facsimiles of human beings and not weirdos) are targets of these guys.
