Institutionalized racism at banks

Someone in the same neighborhood as my my late sister's house in Atlanta has sold her house. The buyer is an Hispanic single mom. Her agent is black.

The seller is white and her agent is white.

Now this may not seem important but read on.

Closing on the house has been delayed twice. It looks like it will be delayed yet again. WHY? Because the loan officer in charge of keeping the buyer's loan moving through the process to close on time does not feel particularly pressed to give good service to an Hispanic single mom. This loan officer is also exceedingly slow at returning calls to the buyer's black agent.

The loan package has been sitting in underwriting for 3 weeks untouched. The buyers agent is trying to get it moving.

The selling agent (white) has contacts in management at the bank. She knows she can get the thing moving but maybe not in time to hit the Friday closing date. Mainly, she wants to find out why they are sitting around letting this crap go on.

If we want to quit hearing "white privilege" then we need to make this crap stop. All of this kind of thing. There is no excuse for this.

Edit to add the dropped D in "institutionalized" ...... thank you typo police.
