(4,168 posts)And I'm really puzzled by all the sniping at Ryan for making this a condition of the job. Whether or not I like Ryan (can't say I do), I admire him for this particular sentiment. From everything I've read, it's sincere and not just a Family Values pretense.

I agree. That's going to be the problem. He wants time with the family, but doesn't support FMLA, etc.

(3,290 posts)only wants to do it part time. I wonder how many people with at least his family values are working two and three jobs to try and support their families and will probably not approach his $50,000 upgrade in pay to $223,000. The job has certain requirements. If he cannot meet them he should not take the job and they can find someone, perhaps with no family ties, to do the Speakers work.
Just like the infamous clerk, Kim Davis, if you cannot do a job because of your values, family or otherwise, you should seek other employment especially if it is at the taxpayers expense.
And he is an asshole to boot!
