http://fortune.com/tag/f-35/Stephen Harpers Conservative government may not be the only casualty in Mondays electoral upset in Canada.
Justin Trudeau, the leader of Canadas victorious Liberals and soon-to-be Prime Minister, has vowed to cancel the countrys purchase of 60 F-35 Joint Strike Fighter jets from Lockheed Martin LMT 1.99% and instead focus on bolstering its Navy.
Trudeaus victory marks another setbackalbeit a small onefor the military program as Lockheed Martin continues its efforts to drive down the per-aircraft price of the F-35 by boosting production rates. However, Lockheeds loss will likely translate into someone elses gain as Canada shops for a less expensive alternative to replace its aging CF-18s fighter jets.
Canada has been part of the F-35 program essentially from its origins in 2001, when Lockheed Martin beat out Boeing for the privilege of building a new fighter jet. Canada pledged $150 million to aid the aircrafts development, alongside several foreign partners including Japan, Norway, Denmark, Australia, and the U.K. That initial investment bought Canadaand the Pentagons other foreign partnersthe right to acquire F-35s later at a lower price.

The F-35 is a total p.o.s SCAM that serves only to enrich the manufacturer.

Highly amusing if they bought the J-31, China's F-35 knockoff that's actually better

Fails every reasonable test badly . Can't compare to decades old fighters at a 10th the cost. The most glaring example of obscene price gouging in the armed aircraft industry today. +1 For Justin right out of the gate.

The only surprise was that they got an absolute majority rather than having to form a coalition with the farther-left NDP.
