the band Three Dog Night. They were an early 70's mainstay, and put out some amazing music with STRONG vocals.

I personally prefer others singing her songs, but that's entirely subjective; the only album of hers I love is Gonna Take a Miracle (because Labelle adds depth to her singing IMO), but I have very fond memories of Eli and the Thirteenth Confession, too...
