He went to my school for a few years, we were soccer buddies, and were in the school band together too (he played sax, I played clarinet). R.I.P.

the brave, dedicated man he was. They never mention that he snuck secretly into Libya on a freighter in the middle of a revolution.

We were early teens IIRC, same grade. He was, as far as I was concerned, entirely unremarkable. Didn't particularly excel at things, got along with people, and I can't remember him ever offending anyone or making waves. He wasn't a smart-ass like so many kids at that age. Just basic human decency, no more no less. Other people knew him better so don't take this as anything definitive, but I spent a fair amount of time with him, he was a member of our lunch-time soccer group, which was not many kids, and a friend.

I completely lost touch with him after that and had no idea what his career path was until it all blew up on the news.
