I'll shop there (I already do), so the publicity is working.

even though in practicality they probably make more money online (and that's mostly automated anyway)

unless they shut down their webstore, it's probably mostly a pr move though

. . .but even there, they'll try to discourage shoppers from placing orders then. Odds are, they won't have special sale prices for Black Friday anyway.

About 20% of REI's sales are made on its website, but the retailer won't try to lure online shoppers on Black Friday either. Customers will be able to place orders, but its homepage will try to divert buyers with a "cover screen" encouraging them to explore the outdoors instead.

This is nice. I know a lot of people including myself who try to avoid shopping at places that force workers to work Thanksgiving and then turn around and have them come in on Friday morning at 4:00am.

I do, however, appreciate the power of the loss leader as that 65" TV of which there is one in America for $99 is an opportunity as hard to avoid falling for as a lottery ticket.

that their overall Holiday sales won't change because of Thanksgiving and Black Friday. as is true for most retailers. But most retailers don't give a fuck about their workers.
