Fox News Ratings Plunge As Rachel Maddow’s Viewership Grows By 31%

Rachel Maddow and MSNBC are experiencing double-digit ratings growth with younger viewers while Fox News has seen their viewership decline by 11% with persons age 25-54.

According to MSNBC, “The Rachel Maddow Show tops CNN for regularly scheduled shows in total viewers (953,000 vs. 547,000) and the A25-54 demo (171,000 vs. 159,000) for the month of October 2015….MSNBC continues to gain momentum in the ratings over last year. MSNBC is up in the key A25-54 demo over October 2014 including “Morning Joe” (+16%), “Hardball with Chris Matthews” (+8%), “All In with Chris Hayes” (+28%), “The Rachel Maddow Show” (+31%), and “The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell” (25%). For M-F Prime 8-11pm, MSNBC is up (+29%) in the A25-54 demo over last year.”

As MSNBC is growing, and CNN’s audience is up an amazing 101%, Fox News has seen a ratings decline, “But unlike CNN and MSNBC, Fox News was down in the A25-54 demo vs. Oct. 2014: down -11 percent in total day and down -1 percent in prime time. Among total viewers, the network saw growth: up +3 percent in both total day and in primetime.”

MSNBC is up by double digits. CNN is up by triple digits, and Fox News has flatlined. Much of CNN’s growth came from the record-setting Democratic debate, but MSNBC is the only cable network not to have aired a debate yet, and they are growing over eight times faster than Fox.

(snip)

Maddow’s ratings grew nearly eight times faster than those of Megyn Kelly on Fox News, because Maddow does something that Fox News doesn’t. Rachel Maddow attracts younger viewers. Fox News has struggled for years to attract younger viewers, and the fact that they barely hung on to defeat CNN in October suggests that Fox’s reign of ratings dominance could be weakening.

I hope that it is followed by going to the polls. The fox news audience who is mostly older go to the polls en masse to get their RW nuts elected. If we can motivate the electorate and in particular younger people to do the same we will start reversing the trend and take senate and house again.

I guess pure propaganda doesn't appeal to youngsters?

Telling all them kids to hate their neighbors, and the only solution to all of America's problems are a wall on the Mexico border, tax cuts for rich people, and deregulating companies so they can kill, rape, and pillage even more freely.

CNN and MSNBC put a thin veneer of objectivity in their broadcasts, but it is only a veneer. Fox "News" is almost as crude as the Nazis with their blatant lies and misinformation.

The plutocrats own the mass media and ratings are really not that important to them.

Turn that shit off!

was #23 in total day. It looks to me like Fox News is continuing to dominate.

Fox News Channel finished No. 3 in both prime time and total day viewers among all ad-supported cable networks for the month of October. FNC averaged 1.76 million viewers between 8-11 p.m. ET, behind only NFL and MLB-heavy networks ESPN and TBS.

The Democratic debate failed to push CNN into the Top 10, as the network finished No. 12 in prime time and No. 17 in total day. MSNBC ranked No. 25 in prime time and No. 23 in total day, while HLN No. 49 in prime time and No. 34 in total day.

AMC and USA join ESPN, TBS and Fox News in the Top 5 prime time networks.

And Maddow continues to trail Kelly on most nights. On Monday night Kelly got 360 in the 25-54 demo and Maddow got 138 for third place among cable news networks. In total viewers Kelly dominated even more, beating Maddow 2211 to 953.

or jobs to go to during the day. They literally have Fox on all day and evening long. Most of the younger demographics work, come home and care for kids, help them with homework or get their news from internet sources. My 72-year-old sister used to go to sleep with the TV on to Fox News. Note, I said used to. Not all Fox News viewers are dying off. Many like my sister and a couple of her friends are being turned off by Fox's championing of doing away with Social Security and Medicare. My sister, who's Hispanic, has been repulsed by their anti-immigration stance and bigotry.

She draws the best people to interview, no matter what their politics is. Rachael is fair, ask smart question and leading questions. Each evening we get the latest information from here. Hot off the press so to speak. On twitter, I urge viewers to watch Rachael under the Fox News tag. Watching Fox News its just the opposite, it is not correct and most likely mis information they speak about. If they have an interview and its doesn't go Fox News direction, the interview is cut short.
The difference between Rachael and Kelly is Kelly has an agenda, and Rachael tells the news and does interviews no matter what direction they may turn.
