The title of the piece is
"Bill Clinton admits he's destroyed millions of black men with prisons."
Although the title says "Bill Clinton" and Boyce Watkins focuses on the Clintons and is criticizing Dems, I think it goes without saying that he's not all that fond of Republicans or of any establishment politicians and that his criticism is of the whole process in the USA. He speaks about the reality of how people's lives are destroyed by a history of racism and mass incarceration - and he's not inclined to forgive the perps.

(2,807 posts)I am looking for suggestions from BLM etc. as to how we move forward. I can only say "I get it" so many times. Any help?

(9,688 posts)It's the kind of plan which requires a lot of groundwork, which hasn't even started.
Not easy. But it's a valid plan.
It would be incredibly cost effective in shutting down the private prison industry which is, ultimately, taxpayer funded.
kinda win-win.

(39,215 posts)number of those incarcerated after the Clinton tough on crime was implemented were Black men. And being imprisoned is nothing less than destruction of the man. Very few prisons have any kind of rehabilitation and especially the for profit prisons.
I speak from seeing family members who were imprisoned although they are not black but very few people of any color including white come out of prison in a better position than they went in.
And at this point we do not ask the question as if it is somehow over. This destruction is still going on - full speed ahead.
The only action I have seen so far is a bill from Bernie to end for profit prisons and President Obama today in his call for criminal justice. This is an issue that should have been done yesterday.
I thought it was clear that I found his explanation to be very enlightening.
