Being from Boston, originally, it was local lore that was rather widely known. Time and distance can make one forget, though.

Head hunting refers to a pitcher purposely throwing at the head of an opposing player.
This can cause injury or death of a ball player and suggesting that Mets pitchers throw at the heads of Royals players has no place on DU.
