Last Night's Trick-or-Treater Count: 195

We started out with 210 full-sized candy bars. Checking this morning, I found just 14 Snickers bars left in the last box. I must confess to gobbling up a Snickers bar to keep my energy up for handing out candy. Our neighborhood in St. Paul, MN appears to be a major destination for minivans full of children. Every costumed kid was polite, said "thank you" and went away with their choice among plain and peanut M&Ms, Twix, Milky Way, or Snickers. The top choice, going away, were the M&M's, followed by Twix. Snickers were the least often chosen by our spooky visitors.

Our Beagle/Basset, Dude, managed to escape twice out of the front door, where he dashed about getting petting from the children. When told to go back in the house, he was slow to comply, but had his usual big goofy grin on as he came back inside.

Now it's November. On Tuesday, we have a city-wide election, where we will vote for our council members by ward and school board candidates. Election Day!

in St. Paul. They have adopted Halloween as their own. At least half the homes on my block have Hmong immigrant families as owners. Great neighbors and devoted to their children. They are a great asset to our city.

other areas brought their kids there too because it was such a good one. And what's a street full of kids without a dog or two?

May your fellow voters be wise, and if not, at least good and ticked off!

in Minneapolis, even though the weather was pretty good. I never know what to expect - last year the weather was lousy and there were lots of kids. At one point a group of 5 or 6 girls showed up and sang a song, which was cute. I didn't recognize the song, but then I'm old. I have candy left over this time. After I eat what's left of the Almond Joys I will take the rest of it to a choir rehearsal. I might leave my ghosts hanging in the tree for a few more days.

into Frozen. Lots of princesses and Spiderman outfits. Quite a few homemade costumes, too, including a little boy dressed in cardboard boxes, so he looked like a big stack of UPS packages. That was the most creative costume I remember. The youngest child I saw was about 18 months old, but still said "Trick or Treat" and "Thank you." The oldest were high school age, all accompanying their younger siblings.

We had no one. We live out in the woods and the few neighbors we have are also retirees. Halloween is the one day of the year that I wish we lived in a neighborhood again. 😊

It was all for the Jehovah's Witnesses infestation.

we lived north of Milwaukee in a smaller town in a regular neighborhood.

Several years later the town grew and they started putting up the bigger fancier houses. Guess what, those parents would both walk the kids to our neighborhood to trick or treat, guess it was cheaper for them that way.

I miss it but it is what it is.

It's always crazy on our street!

My favorite was a little boy, about 3, decked out as Betelgeuse from the movie, full make-up, crazy hair, striped suit. He announced "Beetlejuice!" when he arrived at our stoop, but he was so little it was hard to understand him - SO cute!

And we have new kids in the neighborhood, too.

In our small southern town, the city sets Trick or treat hours, which are 5 to 7 pm.
At the same time, they hold a big Halloween party on the courthouse square, so lots of parents take the kids there,
or take their kids to church sponsored events.

Trick or treating seems to be dying out here..

I have to confess I do not miss wrestling with the dog who barks hysterically every time someone comes within 70 feet
of the driveway.

Yes, all the kids are grown now but I would think that many would come from other neighborhoods..

At least the city will collect candies and send to the troops.

Unfortunately, I read the article below after I bought the halloween candy for trick or treaters, but next year I will choose other brands.

http://usuncut.com/news/beware-of-these-10-popular-chocolate-brands-that-exploit-child-slaves/

Americans spend over a billion dollars every Halloween on chocolate, accounting for 10% of most chocolate company’s annual revenue. And the average American citizen eats over 11 pounds of chocolate a year. So this Halloween, use your money to let them know that child slavery will not be tolerated by American consumers.

A different brand of candy. I am interested in seeing about buying other brands too. My thought was either another OP where we can really discuss or next week when we have Christmas coming up which is another candy buying time. Your reply is very important and I would like to see it again.

to the neighbor kids because everyone goes too town where the stores give out treats. I was sign waving for a local Democrat so got to see all the cute kids and their parents. Halloween has turned into a really nice holiday - a real family event when they all dress up. My favorite was a dad dressed up as Howard Stern.
