As Speaker, Ryan to sleep in DC office
By Scott Wong
Speaker Paul Ryan may now be second in line to the presidency, but hell still continue sleeping in his office on Capitol Hill.
I just work here. I dont live here, the Wisconsin Republican said Sunday in an interview on CNNs State of the Union. Im just a normal guy.
<>
So I live in Janesville, Wisconsin. I commute back and forth every week. I just work here. I dont live here, he said. So i get up very early in the morning. I work out. I work til about 11:30 at night. I go to bed and I do the same thing the next day.
It actually makes me more efficient, Ryan added. I can actually get more work done by sleeping on a cot in my office, and Im going to keep doing it.
As Speaker, Ryan will be entitled to quite a bit more real estate in the Capitol. But a Ryan spokesman said the Speaker will continue spending nights in his congressional office in the Longworth House Office Building, not in the Speaker's office in the Capitol.

One-Fifth of House Freshmen Sleep in Offices
A CBS News survey of all freshmen members of the U.S House of Representatives has found that at least 21 of the 96 members are sleeping in their office - that's 19 of the 87 new Republicans and 2 of the 9 new Democrats.

(58,785 posts)5. The Speaker's luxurious suite of offices won't exactly require Ryan to
sleep on a couch. When he needs to get up in the middle of the night, he can always stroll out on his private balcony and gaze down the National Mall.

(82,849 posts)8. Is it time for the housing bill again already?
I'm sure the Speaker will be as sympathetic towards government housing assistance as he was to government-guaranteed family leave. Which is to say that Mr. Ryan really likes the little perks and helps he gets for being a government-sponsored big shot, but he doesn't think anyone else deserves them.
