however, the debates should be on broadcast television and be considered part of the networks public service obligation. There should be an equal number of debates for each party and all of the broadcast networks should share in the obligation to carry them commercial free. Anything on a cable network, well different story.

Just the prior week I was complaining to a friend that the debates weren't accessible to everyone and should be on broadcast TV. And there I was, subject to the same constraint I had complained about.

I can imagine the outrage over questions they'd be asked on either PBS or CSPAN.

I hope Middle America is paying attention to this. They're looking like a bunch of soap bubbles, thin skins surrounding nothing but hot air. I can just imagine the candidate, if they can manage to field one, trying to set the conditions for a debate against a Democrat.

I wonder if the GOP is reconsidering its disdain for the League of Women Voters and its sponsorship of political debates? There were reasons for doing things the way they were done, but conservatives hated non-partisan involvement in the political realm. It didn't give them a way to corrupt the system. Funny thing, though; there's always someone with a big bankroll who wants to tilt the playing field his way.
