Fred Thompson has died... (Breaking on CNN now)

I liked his movies and acting, mostly. Hated his politics! Rest well, sir.

The former Republican senator who also acted in feature films and on television died after a recurrence of lymphoma at 73

(NASHVILLE) Fred Thompson, a Republican U.S. senator for eight years who also acted in feature films and on television, has died, his family says in a statement.

The statement says he died in Nashville after a recurrence of lymphoma at 73.

Thompson, a lawyer, alternated between politics and acting much of his adult life. Once regarded as a rising star in the Senate, he retired from the seat when his term expired in January 2003, saying he didn’t “have the heart” for another term.

He announced a bid for president in 2007 but dropped out in 2008 after faring poorly.

Despite his politics, he was a fine actor who brought life to the many characters he portrayed in film and on TV.

I won't miss the politician - but I will miss the actor.

Liked the actor but not the politician. Although, he and his pick-up truck were just acting when he was a politician.

I still chuckle thinking about when someone described him, when he was running for President, as "having the charisma of waking your grandfather up from a nap"

RIP

Somehow the doctors seem to downplay how dangerous this disease is. RIP Fred Thompson.
