12. Agreed, I'd probably have voted against it to if I lived in Ohio

Some might be disappointed at it's loss still. But what matters most are two things at the end of the day.

1) The lopsided vote in no way reflects if Ohio would actually support a proper Marijuana legalization proposal without the monopoly.

2) I'm sure this can go right back on the ballot pretty quickly in another year or two, without the monopoly provisions.

Only 10 agencies would control growing making it a monopoly. We are working for a better bill next year, where turnout will be higher.

6. It was to be embedded in the state constitution - practically impossible to fix -

especially after the businesses/farms are up and working.
10 rich groups, including a Taft relative and Oscar Robertson, basketball great, were part of it.

It's far easier to just fail to enforce, if that's the general consensus.
Federal prohibition is still on the books, but seldom enforced.

"Issue 3 failed because the ballot issue before voters became more about how to legalize marijuana, not whether or not to legalize it. Issue 3 would have created a monopoly that would have given 10 investment groups – who paid for the campaign -- the sole right to produce marijuana. These investors stood to make tens of millions off the plan."

13. Did polling show this was going to pass?

I swear I recall reading earlier today that this measure was going to easily pass, yet it's instead beaten heavily.

If polls really showed that, then that's quite a miss by pollsters being over 20 points off.

14. Not the polls I saw

It was dead even polling wise last I'd seen (42-42) though I don't recall if that was about this specific bill or marijuana legalization in general. Support for medical marijuana was very high though, which was reported in the same story I saw.
