BOSTON (AP) — A new exhibition at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum offers a rare glimpse into the celebrated president's early years.

"Young Jack" features some never-before-displayed items: a set of Kennedy's crutches and his wooden school desk with the initials "JFK" carved into it.

Museum Curator Stacey Bredhoff says the exhibit tells the story of Kennedy's early life. It focuses on his military service, which was a defining moment for the future president, who was mischievous and underachieving in high school.

Other items on display include photographs from Kennedy's days at his Connecticut boarding school and his Navy and Marine Corps Medal and Purple Heart Medal.
