Do you ever wonder if you could be on the "No Fly" list?

Especially when you're lucky enough to be making big travel plans for yourself, and maybe even for yourself and your family or friends?

Maybe I'm just an anxious dufus, but I kind of find such lists to be rather uninviting. Even terror inducing. Hmm.

The same goes for "Anonymous" and others when it/they says/say it/they will publish a list of people involved in such and such.

I know that's too general, but still, can we start working on treating one another as humans first? WTF is going on around here?

I'm pretty sure you'd know it by now. Of course, something new could come up, where say, Norwegian-American accountants suddenly become suspect or something.

Other than that, enjoy your trip!

And that might explain my paranoia. Still, trust on such matters is hard to create.

You get your boarding pass and it has ***SSSS*** stamped on it. That means "Selected for Secondary Security Screening." You are on the watch list, or somebody with your name is on the watch list, or you paid in cash, or you're flying one-way, or you come from a particular country, or about fifteen other things. The "no fly" list is more hardcore, and they won't even sell you a ticket.

I worked for TSA five years at Dulles airport. We hated it when people came through with ***SSSS*** on the boarding pass because we had to give them the third degree, and we couldn't even tell them why. Even the airlines, who run the system, can't tell you why you get selected. I understand they have changed the system, so fewer people get the dreaded **SSSS*** on the boarding pass.

I was flying on a pass from my dad's retired airline employee privileges. It took a couple years after 9/11 before they made accommodations for airline employees on passes.

which is how NM is being punished for issuing driver's licenses to undocumented workers. Yes, it's easy to tell them apart, they don't have an SSN on them, just a picture and address. How dare we make sure all residents know the local laws and register and insure their cars?

However, I was a little surprised not to be on that list during Stupid's pResidency. Those people were so outrageously paranoid about all the wrong things that I'd think everybody to the left of Mussolini would be on it.

Maybe next spring.

I happen to have my passport, just recently renewed, so not a problem for me. I also got the travel card thing, which remains in my wallet, so I won't even need to carry the passport with me at all times.

Several other states, including NYS, also have drivers licenses that are not in compliance with the Real ID act or whatever the hell it is. I'm somewhat eagerly looking forward to the total chaos that will ensue when thousands of travelers are suddenly denied boarding because of the non compliant licenses. It will be fun to watch, and I wonder how quickly the TSA will back down.

I am proud to live in a state that issues a drivers license to all. I cannot begin to fathom why some think it's a really good idea that people not be issued licenses. It sure as hell won't stop them from driving.

was something about this in the Santa Fe New Mexican today or yesterday, the deadline for Real ID drivers licenses has been extended a bunch of times already. The fact that NYS and several others also don't meet the requirements has been making national news, but once again, One of Our Fifty is Missing.

I actually brought my passport into AZ because I didn't trust the cops there to look the other way if I had an accident or other traffic issue.....
I also got one those card passports while I was renewing my old passport.

I haven't flown since the 90's and am in no rush to do so. I'm assuming I might be on the list because when I was doing a lot of blogging during the Iraq war thing, at around midnight I had someone from Alexandria, VA always on the site. I did some research and figured it was a big army base in the D.C. area or a government office that had someone visiting me...

when that idiot Brewer was their governor to tell us to take alternate means of ID to drive to or through AZ. Xenophobes there have been freaking out ever since the program to get foreign drivers educated and their cars insured started. The worst thing for the xenophobes is that it's working here as intended, although they turn down undocumented workers from out of state every day.

Due to the fact that I'll never board an airliner again in my lifetime.

Much easier, more secure, and less stressful, to drive.

I get that people may disagree, however, right or wrong I trust MY faculties more than I trust those of any given unknown persons piloting/riding. Also I insist on doing whatever it is I choose to do, on MY terms, and no one elses.

never kept me from boarding is proof that they don't do a very good job of tracking all of the real subversives.

I also have a unique first and last combination, being the only person in this country, possibly the entire world, with my particular name, so if they ever nail me, I won't be able to tell them they have me confused with someone else with this name.

My grandfather, with whom I share a name, was a fairly prominant IRA terrorist. Does it help that my father in law shares a name and a hometown with an Al Qaeda leader?

It has been sorted out.
