(15,730 posts)HW was really of the the moderate to liberal wing of the Republicans back then. Yes they existed. He was put on the ballot to balance out Reagan. If the party had not done that, Carter would have probably won. My dad was a moderate Republican and liked HW but despised Reagan as being "not of this planet".

Until Reagan appeared. She never voted for another Republican for president and she lived to 86 years old.

(13,390 posts)It only reminds people that the Bush lapse in judgement is not limited to the friends they choose. Their relationship with Cheney certainly goes way back.
