And then a religious nut job station, then a sports talk station (with added RW politics). Then probably some station with only ads or scammers talking about finances or gold. Then back to hate radio….

really hateful, bitter people by right wing radio. It's actually pretty sad. I wouldn't believe people could be so fundamentally changed by listening to a few hours of radio every day if I hadn't seen it myself so many times.

It's sort of the antithesis of the college experience, where you suddenly come into contact with lots of ideas and types of people you'd never interacted with before, and become a bit more liberal as a result. Right wing radio tells people over and over that they're the salt of the earth, the Real Americans©, and that every single one of their problems (real and imagined) are the fault of *those other people*.

an old-time practicing dentist. One of the nicest, warmest, most caring guys I ever met. Never made much money because he was always doing either 'free' care or 'almost free care' (being defined as 'pay me if/when you can) for anyone who asked, black, white, or blue. A true Christian in the best sense of the word. And then he got hooked on listening to Limbaugh on radio, and, slowly but surely I watched him change dramatically until his views (and lifetime attitudes) become virtually unrecognizable. Everything was the fault of "the others" - the moochers, the takers, the welfare queens, etc. The only saving grace is that, for all he intellectually embraced all these RW hate positions he never stopped doing free work for anyone who came to his office, until shortly before he died. He didn't practice what he preached. But it was still beyond shocking to see the horrible change in a decent person that RW radio brought about. It's poison.

People listen to these haters and get madder and madder... and they are armed to the teeth. I honestly believe we could see insurrections and armed uprisings in the near future. The attack in Charlotte, SC, was a terrorist attack by an American terrorist, and we've seen more. This is how it begins.

intellectually curious and never read a book that he wasn't forced to in school.

He got a factory job after high school where the boss played right wing talk radio in the employee area all day long. He was totally indoctrinated within two years. Last time that I spoke to him, he was literally foaming at the mouth with rage about ACORN having stolen the 2008 election after having given the majority in Congress back to the Democrats.

It makes the ignorant angrier and gets them out to vote every time.

Democratic liberal talk radio doesn't exist. Dems only vote during prez election years.

This is why the thugs control so many states.

The AM station with the biggest blowtorch in my town is right wing garbage all day long as it is in most cities. Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham, Rush, Hannity on and on, hour after hour. Then the local hacks in the morning are just as bad.

Any bit of critical thinking could punch holes in this propaganda.

I grew up around this garbage and wasn't taught critical thinking skills, yet I saw through it even though most around me did not. And I know many brighter bulbs than myself.

Is it really that these people have such hardwired, messed-up thinking patterns? If so, there's no hope for the world.

This also reminds me of their views on another subject.

To go down a well-worn path- Germans are smart people generally. Yet they fell under the spell of a group of homicidal and genocidal maniacs. In more modern times, Canada just spent 10 years under a pretty radical RW regime, which used the power of the government to silence critics to an extent not even matched by Bush.

The problem is that, since the defeats of Carter, Dukakis and Mondale, the leadership of the Democratic Party has decided to take the easy road and go along with Corporate rule, so long as the money keeps flowing. Being a less extreme version of republicans has been successful in all presidential elections from 1992 on, except for 2004 (and possibly even then given the vote fraud in Ohio). But part of this has been to not rock the boat too much. Thus no fighting voter fraud too much, and certainly no real attempts to curb the RW hate radio stream. Limbaugh is still on Armed Forces Radio.

Of course, with only a short break, the Democratic leadership has been focussed on winning the Presidency and selected Senate seats. Thus the Repubs have been able to dominate State and local offices in a majority of states. People don't hear pushback from the RW lies and propaganda at these lower levels.

The problem is not with those who have been deceived. The problem is with those who have the power to do something about it.

That's how I grew up.

So, plop a caring human brain in the middle of this propaganda and they *still* won't adopt it.

It's as if *most* people have some kind of brain disorder making them more susceptible to selfishness and hate. Their brains do not, perhaps cannot, override the incoming garbage.

Not all people are that programmable.

Sadly, most are.

Is it more about personal status, psychology, and group identify of these haters? As LBJ said...

That's why it works!!
