Two Alameda County Sheriffs deputies were placed on paid administrative leave following the release of a video showing the officers beating a suspect with batons following a 38-minute car chase from the East Bay to San Francisco.
Sheriff Gregory Ahern placed the deputies on leave Sunday, two days after launching an investigation into the Thursday incident, said Sgt. J.D. Nelson, a spokesman for the sheriffs office. The deputies were not identified.
The beating was the culmination of a car chase from San Leandro to San Franciscos Mission neighborhood, with the suspect taking off after the deputies approached the man, who was sitting in a stolen car at about 1:38 a.m., according to Nelson.
The suspect, Stanislav Petrov, 29, reportedly rammed the deputies cars, knocking one of the officers down before fleeing the scene.

(2,975 posts)I was intimately familiar with Alameda County Sheriff. I often considered them the best I knew at the time (80s/early 90s). I'm sickeningly disappointed.

Rare the audio and video is so good. You can hear the beating....it's savage.

(2,975 posts)My experience was childhood through teenage long and unique. Many officers became/were family friends. I can't imagine them (most retired that I know of ) behaving like this. Please dont take it as an excuse or qualifying their behavior. Only that I'm aghast my 'good cop' memories are now this and I need to readjust.
