Flashback: John McCain Caught Red-Handed With ISIS




These days John McCain has been a vocal opponent of ISIS. But it wasn’t long ago that he went to Syria to meet with factions of rebels fighting the Syrian government who now have turned out to be ISIS members.

While there are many factions fighting against the Assad Regime, those in the pictures taken with Senator McCain have been positively identified as members of the self-styled “Islamic State.”

The very same terrorist group which is now carrying out ruthless attacks on Christians, Yazidis and Shiites, was in fact who Senator McCain was promoting, in much the same way that the Reagan Administration lauded the proto-Taliban fighters in Afghanistan.

After Senator McCain returned from his trip to Syria, he said that “it was a very moving experience to meet these fighters who have been struggling now for over two years.”

The situation in Syria is such a fluid mess that it's hard to fault McCain too much for this retrospectively embarrassing fact.

On the other hand, this does show how stupid these photo-ops that masquerade as "fact-finding" missions really are...

If you really want an unfiltered picture of the situation on the ground, and some perspective and assurance as to whether or not your "allies" really are steadfast, one might send over a small team of, oh say, 50 special operations soldiers to embed with them.

Hmm... that sounds familiar...
