The vast majority of ISIS victims are Muslim.
The Xenophobia overtaking our country is sickening.

(12,151 posts)The really dangerous, devastating thing to do to an extremist movement is to prove its ideology wrong. ISIS works on the basis that the world is divided into Muslims devoted to a particular interpretation of Islam, and everyone else, who must die.
American conservatives just back up their thinking when they agree with that, and simply argue that it's the Muslims who must die.
The only way forward is to reject that entire framework, fight the people who need fighting, and give those whom they'd like to join them an alternative -- like living peacefully in Europe or the U.S.
It's fairly obvious, but it's apparently a lot to ask for people to recognize it.

(169 posts)Id imagine any campaign is feeling out the peanut gallery on this one, and I'd guess, the majority of Muricans further than 20 miles out from city center are howling about 'letting these damn muslims in'
Tough stance on immigration would poll well even if the candidates happen to be descendants of migrants themselves.

(26,642 posts)I made a similar statement as a comment on FB and was told I didn't respect divergent viewpoints. I answered that I didn't think xenophobia or any prejudice, for that matter, is a viewpoint. Maybe that's wrong, I don't know, but, ok, if it is, I don't respect it.
