(14,732 posts)that the AK-47 is a weapon that should be in the hands of anyone with the $$ to buy it? It's a true military weapon with amazing punch and has no justifiable use in the civilian world (with the exception of law enforcement).

(2,337 posts)I've owned one before.
Never had a desire to kill anyone with it.
Are you projecting the feelings you had when you owned one onto others?

(3,660 posts)Your average grandpa's hunting rifle delivers more muzzle energy than an AK-47. Not only did the shield do just fine but we have no idea on proximity or number of shots.

(10,164 posts)Like any true assault rifle, a Kalashnikov (as well as its semi-automatic civilian replicas) fires a medium-power cartridge. It's more powerful than most handgun rounds (by a lot), but a good bit less so than virtually any common hunting rifle round. The theory behind the smaller rounds is that a soldier can carry more of them.
