Glenn Greenwald has some serious issues with the way the mainstream media has reacted to the Paris terrorist attacks, specifically on how eager some reporters seem to be for America to go to war.
On Democracy Now! today, Greenwald condemned the despicable interview by two CNN anchors of a Muslim guest before discussing the run-up to the Iraq war and how the Bush administration was cheered on by the media and most of the American people in the wake of 9/11.
And, he said, its happening again. The media is trying to stoke that id part of our brain, Greenwald argued, and so is the government, to just focus on vengeance and focus on the desire to obliterate, even when its not in our interest to do so.
....
Terrorism porn. We provide it in our entertainment, if there's not a current act happening.

(55,445 posts)I've been reading his Twitter account long enough to know his talking points by heart...He has a singular train of thought, so he is quite predictable and easy to read...
Nevermind the fact that hearing Greenwald's voice makes me want to shoot something, so unless you want somebody to *die*, you should be glad that I don't listen to his interviews...

But back to the matter at hand -- Let me spell it out so you can understand: For all his hand-wringing bullshit about balance and opposing views on CNN, when has he fucking EVER in the whole of his career interviewed anybody with a dissenting voice at FLM? (You have no doubt noticed that you need to have the right views to get hired there in the first place) When has Amy Goodman at Democracy Now??
Get back to me when you discover the answer...

(55,445 posts)since Goodman is someone I actually have a modicum of respect for since her politics have always been consistent... Unlike Greenwald, Goodman was never hardcore "build the fence" anti-immigrant, and she wasn't calling the crowds marching against the Iraqi invasion Commie Peaceniks until those viewpoints became uncool with her readership...
Unfortunately, since Greenwald appeared on Goodman's show to spew his moldy-assed talking points, this one instance I've got to lump them together to refute Greenwald's whiny non-point...

But yes, there is a definite sense of deja vu about all this.
The War Drums are beating AGAIN. Lots of money for the war mongers in forever war. They are salivating at the thought of more of that money.
I'm willing to bet that before too long Congress will be asked to increase the money going to 'our NATIONAL SECURITY' and all the Corporate Funded members of Congress on both sides, will vote for it AGAIN.
