(206 posts)I attend a Catholic Church in Cincinnati. Today, at Mass during the sermon, Father specifically mentioned that we (meaning everyone, not just this parish), should be welcoming the Syrian refugees. He compared the situation to his own family, his grandmother's side of the family who left Ireland for America during the potato famine, and his grandfather's side of the family, who left the Black Forest of Germany because they were tired of fighting the Kaiser's wars.
Catholic Charities of Ohio has been working with Syrian refugees in the US for quite some time now.
Also, Father is recovering from laryingitis, so for him to have a longer and somewhat vehement homily was quite an accomplishment!

(17,997 posts)I love Catholic Charities. A very dear friend of my dad's used to run the Chicago one. And my uncle raised a ton of money for Catholic Charities over the years. Tens of millions.
What we're doing is so beyond sick I don't know if I even want to stay in this country

And millions are from Syria. I'm glad that you at least agree they should be allowed here.

(63,221 posts)The economic migrants that are coming to Europe are coming for free social benefits from the government. They don't want to work, they just want to sponge off the generous social benefits of European countries.
