Brussels Stays on Lockdown Amid Hunt for Several Terror Suspects

Steven Devisscher’s bar in downtown Brussels normally teems with more than 200 customers quaffing specialty Belgian beers on a Saturday night. Not this weekend.

After a government warning of an “imminent” Paris-style terrorist attack, his doors were locked and his lights off.

“People are afraid,” said Devisscher, the manager of Monk, situated a short walk from the city’s historic Grand Place. He didn’t need to turn people away because the city was empty. “The police wanted us to close; we still decided to stay open, but there was nobody about. The streets are dead.”

so that it would be hard for the people being searched for to pick out actual information. So the Belgium's thought "what better than Kitten Pictures". So it may be now one stop shopping for SalmonEnchantedEvening photos.

With their capital city in lockdown amid fears of a Paris-style terror attack, Belgians looked for some relief from the tension. The answer? Cat pictures.

The lockdown continued on Monday, with schools and metros remaining closed. As Belgian authorities conducted a wide-ranging manhunt for Islamist terrorists across an otherwise deserted Brussels, police took to Twitter to ask the public not to post details of the search.

"For safety, please observe radio silence on social media about ongoing police operations," the Police Federale posted on Twitter, according to Google Translate.

But instead of radio silence, cooped-up tweeters in Brussels instead decided to off some steam by tweeting pictures of their cats - with the hashtag BrusselsLockdown. And in the way of all efforts at cat domination, the effort soon went global.
