"...1 in 2,000,000 chance..."

Last night on 60 Minutes a police expert on terrorist attacks pointed.out that there is a one in two million chance you or I would ever be involved as victims of an attack.
She then went on to say that there is a one in seven hundred thousand chance of being stuck by lightning.

I will add that there is a one in 9,375 chance you'll be killed by a handgun.

"Home of the Brave"??

I think not.

but a lot more people are afraid to fly than to drive.

I've heard that it's about perceived control-- you drive the car, not the airplane.

You can go inside during a lightning storm, but have no idea ho to avoid a terrorist.

A certain amount of fear makes sense, but I think we've become addicted to fear.

About some things like a terrorist attack makes some sense if you happen to be in NY or DC or some other major populations center, but most of us are not in that position... But the pervasive paranoia that has infected this country is ridiculous in most cases but is cheered on by our so called leaders and used in an attempt o control us as much as to pretend to protect us...
